I'm glad you were able to express cogent arguments against wholescale adoption of AI. But I'm sick of the education field jumping on the New Thing WITHOUT making a persuasive argument, at least most of the time. Both math and reading instruction at the elementary level have been scourged for decades now by a combination of idealism and capitalism, the first imagining they can create utopia, the latter caring only about making a buck on the dreamer's idea of the year.

I teach middle school and nothing makes me more despondent than today's kids being unable to think for themselves about matters that 1st graders used to handle with ease. AI will exacerbate this problem by orders of magnitude.

Congratulations on the invitation to participate in the debate and for sharing the salient points from all speakers. In looking at your data, you mentioned that you won (which is exciting!). However, persuading undecided folks is only one part of winning. The "For" group didn't budge. Do we know if the same folks voted For before and after the talks? To me, this is the troubling part. It's extremely difficult to convince folks otherwise who have already made up their minds...

Agreed that this would be interesting. I only know the raw before / after totals, though.

Congrats on the debate results! But the whole point of Big Tech corporations funding the push for every 12 year-old to learn to code 10 years ago was to gift the private sector an oversupply of software developers to bring wages down. It wasn't a surprise side effect.

Beautifully and thoughtfully said. And with a sense of humor, too! (Just shared this with our math department--I'm an English teacher.)

You're back! But just on Wednesday here! But going out to DC and moving the AEI conference attending undecideds on AI! All very exciting, good to hear your voice again.

Thank you for your continued work to center the realities of classrooms and schools! I think AI is a helpful tool that can save teachers some time, but it’s not an easy button that solves the complex, human challenges we face in helping turn N-graders into N+1-graders.

Dan, I really appreciated the distinction you drew about now vs later. Thanks, as always, for your great work.

I watched live, and you and Jake did great. You especially did great at biting your tongue.

Thank you for taking this on! Your side did a great job and made relevant points. (I wish I could say that for the other side, but I can't!) It was fun seeing it live too!
