I don't know about teachers, but Mr Belding the principal from Saved by the Bell got a standing ovation when he was introduced as a guest judge for the Soring Sing when I was in college at UCLA. We were on our feet.

Hard to tell if he was a great teacher but Mr. Hand didn’t give up on Spicoli in FTaRH. Of course that could have been so he didn't have to teach him again :-)

Please consider George from To Be and To Have (I think that is the teacher name)- The documentary is about a one room schoolhouse in rural France. https://www.imdb.com/video/vi1604960281/?ref_=tt_vi_i_1

Katherine Ann Watson from Mona Lisa Smile. She taught art history to women at Wellesley College (one of the best schools in the nation) in the 50’s that there’s more to school than memorization (how can art make us feel, give us life, make us think?), and there’s more to life than becoming a housewife (it’s possible to be a wife AND have a career we’re passionate about). She also rewired her own definition of feminism to support women who genuinely choose the life of wife- and motherhood over a different career.

Most overrated: Prez from The Wire. OK, so you've got an intro lesson to probability. What else?

Best: Calypso, from Bluey.

There's a park near us that won't let in adults unaccompanied by a child. That's how I feel about Bluey right now. Like, can I just ... please watch it ... even though my kids have moved on to other, worse shows?

Jaime Escalante- best teacher.

He addressed equity and bias in the math classroom before it was cool to talk about either of those things.

Jaime Escalante, best teacher.

I object to the "most overrated" question -- because why try and undermine ANY positive public vibes for any teacher anywhere? Bravo to any teacher that does well enough to get people to notice. Although, I was tempted to answer with Zelensky's teacher character on "Servant of the People", since maybe you are overrated if people love you so much that they elect you to run your country LOL. But no--bravo to him, too! Teacher Takeover of the World, In Progress!

Hypothetically, if a teacher from film / tv were celebrated for communicating racist ideas about students or ineffective ideas about teaching, I would want to undermine those positive public vibes.

C’mon, let’s hear it! Who are we canceling? Don’t tell me—Escalante?
